Back

Well, I’m back in Houston after a week of being out of town.  Star’s still around, a fact which baffles her doctor and the nursing staff.  Granted, she gave us a couple of scares while I was up there, but she always seemed to withdrawl from the brink. I swear, she’s just like our mother [...]

Keep on keepin’ on

Star is still hanging around despite everyone’s predictions.  Even her doctor is baffled about this one, especially since she’s eaten and drank very little since last Friday. Anyway, I’m back in town for class tonight, then back on the road to Abilene.  Again, I’m taking the laptop, so I’ll update if I can.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

Tuesday, April 04, 2006, 1:02am Tonight was a both a good night and a bad night. First, the bad. Tammy and I beat some shoe leather and set out to look for Star’s son Dustin. We went from friend’s house to friend’s house looking for him. Eventually, we found the house at which he was [...]

Still hanging on

It’s now 3:00am Sunday morning, and Star is still hanging in there.  For the most part, she’s resting comfortably, but every few hours or so, she gets very agitated and combative, at which time she needs to be sedated. Her responsiveness has deteriorated since I arrived here.  At first, she’d respond if you touched her, [...]

It’s time

The time has come.  Star’s doctor has asked that all family come and pay their final visits before she passes on.  I’m leaving Houston in a few minutes with my dad and we are headed to Abilene. I’m taking my laptop, so I might be able to update from there.

Coming to the end

Over the last 9 months, my sister has been battling a cancer that has been ravaging her body.  She’s been through quite the wringer: cancer, surgeries, chemo therapy, radiation therapy, and even a couple of hurricanes just to complicate matters more than they already were. Over the weekend, the doctor’s informed us that Star had [...]

Update on Star

I just got off the phone with PJ. Star has apparently stopped responding to her cancer treatment. Her doctors are now wanting to move her into a hospice. PJ and Tammy will be making the final decision about this sometime today. In edit (12:30pm): I just got off the phone with Mom. They are moving [...]

Update on Star

For the last week or so, Star has been steadily getting worse. She was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, and hasn’t made any improvement. My sister-in-law, Tammy has been married to my brother for almost 6 years now, and has been taking care of Star every day since we got her moved to Abilene [...]

Update on Star

I haven’t posted an update recently, as until the last couple of weeks or so, she’s been fairly stable – not getting any worse, but not getting any better, either. Recently, they discovered two new tumors in her left breast, both are about 4cm each. Biopsies have revealed both tumors to be malignant. Currently, there’s [...]

Fuck the system

As many here may remember, my nephew got put into a halfway house after his grandmother lied to his probation officer. Well, things just got worse. Our wonderfully enlightened state government has passed a law saying that cold remedies containing pseudephadrine, a key ingredient for methamphetamine, have to be dispensed by a pharmacist, and the [...]
