Politics and human nature
I want to take a moment from the political and economic turmoil to talk about a human issue. In today’s politically charged environment, it is almost impossible to escape the vitriol that gets tossed around so freely. We get caught up in the fact that we may hate one person’s political beliefs that we forget to make the distinction between the argument and the person. In short, we forget to be civil towards others. Of course, I cannot say that I’m entirely innocent.
This election cycle has shown that not even the families of political opponents are immune to the mudslinging. For example of this mudslinging, see how Alaska’s Gov. Sarah Palin has been treated by the unhinged left. Michelle Obama, the wife of the Democratic candidate, has also been on the receiving end of some rather spiteful and unfortunate rhetoric from those on the unhinged right. In both cases, the rhetoric has gone way beyond the bounds of what would normally be considered civil discourse.
Actually, this whole election cycle has been beyond civil discourse, and no single party is to blame; there’s enough of that to go around.
That said, it has been announced that Senator Obama will be suspending his campaign for a few days to visit his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham. I’ve seen some reports that she is gravely ill, and other reports that she has broken a hip. I’ve not, however, seen a report that corroborates either situation. Either of these issues can pose serious problems for an 85 year-old woman.
Regardless of any political differences I may have with Sen. Obama, I offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery for Ms. Dunham. She has lived though some interesting times, and I am sure that she is very proud of her grandson for making it as far as he has in this year’s presidential campaign.

first off he’s not suspending the campaign, the campaign is going on, only he’s leaving to Hawaii, his surrogates will handle the batlle for a few days.
Secondly she has both a broken hip and is ill, when people suffer injuries at that age, they can also suffer from fevers, infections etc. due to their weakened state
Thanks for the information. Regardless of the cause of her condition, I hope she recovers quickly.
