The rammifications of American ignorance
One of the reasons that it is very difficult to take American “culture” seriously is our never-ending fascination with people or events of minimal importance. The average American idiot is more concerned with which celebrities are getting married, getting divorced, having an affair, or making asinine and outrageous statements. Just as examples, in the last few months, there has been much hay made over Paris Hilton’s in-and-out-and-back-in-again adventrues in a Los Angeles jailhouse, Britney Spear’s divorce and susequent custody hearing, Rosie O’Donnell attention-whoring her way out of The View, and OJ’s most recent run-in with the law. This is not to exclude which celebrity couple is currently knocking boots or which celebrities are acquiring their latest prepubescent fashion accessory from some third-world hellhole.
Americans, in general, know more about the private lives of their favorite celebrity than they do about the most basic rights enumerated in the U.S. Constitution, let alone the five rights outlined in the First Amendment. This all-consuming ignorance has seeped into our political system. For example, Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic presidential candidate maintains her position simply because she happens to have a relationship, however tenuous, with another media darling with whom she shares a surname. Her “platform”, for lack of a better term, is designed to appeal to the emotions of the ignorant, rather than to the brains of the informed.
Hillary is not the only politician who depends on the ignorance of the American population, she is merely the one most likely to benefit from that ignorance. In some way, every politician depends on the public’s lack of information. Over the last couple of years, this country has seen politicians stir up indignation among the religious ignorant, and has gotten them to endorse measures designed to discriminate against a certain portion of the population. Even the only Republican candidate for whom I would have considered voting has shot himself in the foot by endorsing anti-freedom agendas that pander solely to the religious ignorant – despite being declared “not Christian enough” by His Most Imperial High Inquisitor and Keeper of All That is Holy, James Dobson of Focus on the Faggots Family.
It seems that most people are content to remain ignorant about how badly they are being screwed. Maybe this little statement will cause people to wake up: Hillary Clinton has already been crowned to be Queen of America by the media. As they see it, next year’s election is just a formality. Pretty soon, Hillary will be the one responsible for enforcing the Patriot Act. If you thought the previous Clinton regime was bad about keeping tabs on political enemies and attacking them with the IRS and other alphabet soup agencies, then think long and hard about how much worse it could be with the provisions of the Patriot Act at her disposal.
