Why do I blog?
Sometimes I wonder why I go through the effort of blogging when it often seems that people couldn’t possibly care less about my various opinions. When I think about it, I am reminded of the reason I started blogging in the first place.
The primary reason I blog is that the act of doing so is cathartic. Blogging is a way I can try to get many of the rampant thoughts from my head and put them onto a more tangible medium. Granted, I’m not always successful in this regard, as my previous lamentations about writer’s block show, but at least the effort gives me somewhat of a chance to rein in my sometimes chaotic thought process.
Other times, the writing process allows me to muddle through the maelstrom of ideas that storm through my brain. By putting some of these thoughts down, it allows me to analyze my opinions and beliefs about a number of different topics. Self analysis in important to me, and I have to admit that it’s the product of a not-so-mild case of narcisissm. Simply put, I like to be right. I may not be right all the time, but I do what I can to make sure that I’m right as often as I can. Introspection and self-analysis are tools that I use to make sure that I have the correct logical view.
I’m not so foolish as to believe that I have all the answers. No one is that wise or all-knowing. Indeed, one could argue that the quest for answers is what brings about true wisdom, and the recognition of ignorance is the first step on that road.
Secondly, blogging allows me to express myself. I don’t have any artistic or musical talent, but I write well, so writing is my primary means of self-expression.
In many ways, blogging is a tool I use to orgnaize my random thoughts. If I can find people who can agree with my thoughts, so much the better, but my blog is primarily a tool I use for myself. Who knows, maybe the flotsam of my mind can be of help to someone else who might be thinking along the same lines that I am thinking.
