9/11 – Never forget the 2996
Every generation has moments which are used to define that generation. For some generations, there are more than one moment. When I was younger, I believed my generation would be defined by the Challenger explosion. Later that changed to the fall of the Berlin Wall. While neither event affected me directly, they were times of such poignancy that they became iconic events for many. Images of the Challenger‘s demise and the Berlin Wall collapsing are showed to students in schools all over the country.
The current generation of young people have had several defining moments for which theit time weill be remembered. They are the controversial 2000 election, 9/11, the Columbia’s destruction, the Iraq war.
In my opinion, 9/11 is the true defining moment of this modern age. Never before in American history were civilians so brutally and callously murdered as they were on that day. 2,996 civilians died in the attacks on, and subsequent collapse of, the twin towers of the World Trade Center.
The 2,996 Project is geared toward the honoring the memory of those people lost on 9/11.
