Swimming in a sea of spam

I don’t normally blog about work, but readers of this blog should already be aware of how much I abhor incompetence.

Last week, our esteemed network engineer took all our spam filters offline, and never bothered to tell anyone. His rationale was that no one would notice the spam filters weren’t working.

How wrong he was.

After a very short while, everyone noticed an dramatic increase in the amount of spam flooding into mailboxes. He turned the filters back on more than 12 hours after shutting them down.

Here’s the rub: when he turned the spam filters back on, they didn’t work, and haven’t worked since last Tuesday. He claims they’re working despite the vertiable tide of proof to the contrary, and therefore refused to look into the issue any further.

Today, things boiled to a head, and lots of people got woken up over it. The network engineer is mad that he is having to work on Labor Day. Boo-fucking-hoo. If the fucker had done his job last week, he’d be able to enjoy his hangover today.

My heart is just swelling with pity for the poor incompetent fool. Can’t you tell?
