Just my luck

Earlier this week, my car (which I haven’t even had for three weeks) was stolen. Naturally, I filed a rather useless report with HDM (Houston Donut Munchers).

This morning, I got a call saying that an illegal alien was pulled over last night for a DUI, and my license plates were on his car. The donut muncher on the phone said that, every time they see this, it means the car from which the plates came has either been chopped or has been sent to Mexico.

They sell the plates to be used on a car of the same make and model so a very cursory inspection will show that its a blue ford tempo or what ever and maybe they might get away. I had plates stolen about 5 or six times in San Diego.

I’m sorry about the car dude.

    Did you have theft coverage?

    Just liability.

I might as well call my school and tell them I’m dropping out as I can’t afford to get another car. And, without a car, I can’t get to/from school.  Or anywhere else for that matter.

This is why I want to relocate from this ridiculous sprawl called Houston. Even with a car, you can’t hardly get around. Everyone seems to want to build their plant/facility/call center/university out on the fringe of the city and if you’re not dumping all your disposable income into keeping some piece of shit running because you have to put 100 miles a day on it (This is fairly common around here), then it’s sitting there not running because you can’t afford the insurance (most places quoted me around $100/month being over 25, no tickets, no accidents for liability only). Then it takes $50 to $100 just to fill your gas tank at current prices and if your lucky someone (usually an illegal immigrant) won’t either wreck your car or steal it as has happened here. It’s getting to the point where it’s not a matter of convenience but a matter of feasibility.

And people wonder why I want to get the hell out of Texas.

They were probably just honest, hard-working illegals trying to make a better life here in America.

Stealing the cars Americans won’t steal?

Exactly. Which says what about your car? ;-)

It was a 1995 Plymouth Neon. They’re very popular in Mexico right now.

    Why?

    Fucked if I know.

The same reason mullets are popular with the immigrants I see here – who also put pez dispensers on the hoods of pickups.

    They don’t have any taste!
