Gettin’ on the Gravy Train

I was making the rounds through the various news sources, and I came across this little tidbit:

Jesse Jackson Says Organization Will Pay Alleged Rape Victim’s Tuition

Naturally, this caught my eye, so I clicked on the link to read the article. It turns out this article is written about the young woman who has accused the white members of the Duke University Lacrosse team of raping her. What really got my attention was written in the second paragraph of the article:

“And the offer stands even if it turns out she fabricated her story.”

Huh?

So Jackson is seeking to reward a woman even if it turns out she purposely and maliciously tried to destroy the lives of several young men?

Granted, if the young woman was legitimately raped, I’ll be one of the first ones in line with the hanging rope. If not, and the evidence is rapidly mounting suggesting that this is the case, then she belongs in jail, not in college on Jesse Jackson’s dime – or anyone else’s dime, for that matter.

Women who falsely cry rape can do some serious harm. Not only do they practically ruin someone’s life, as people accused of rape are often convicted in the court of public opinion even if legally acquitted, but they make it more difficult for people to believe women who are genuinely raped. Think of The Boy Who Cried Wolf here, folks.
